When the sun damages the skin or signs of aging appear, people often turn to cosmetic procedures, but many cosmetic procedures can be inconvenient and invasive. At Dr. Regina Anderson’s Baltimore, Maryland practice, staff member Chris Blair offers a variety of noninvasive cosmetic procedures. Using treatments like the truSculpt® 3D body sculpting system by Cutera, intense pulsed light (IPL) and chemical peels, Miss Blair can reduce signs of aging, treat skin pigmentation, and even address body-sculpting concerns.

Cosmetic Procedures Q & A

Which cosmetic procedures does Miss Blair provide?

She specializes in four unique, noninvasive cosmetic procedures:

  • TruSculpt 3D, which uses radiofrequency technology delivered below the skin through a handpiece. Its main function is to treat body-sculpting concerns by decreasing body circumference and eliminating fat on large and small areas.
  • IPL, a non-laser, high-intensity light source treatment used mainly for unwanted hair removal and to treat pigmented lesions.
  • Chemical peels, which are used to improve the appearance of the skin on your face, neck, and hands. There are three basic types: superficial, medium, and deep peels. The VI Peel® treats acne scars, aging, or sun-damaged skin and wrinkles.
  • HydraFacial®, which removes dead skin cells and impurities while simultaneously bathing the new skin with cleansing, hydrating, and moisturizing serums.

How does each treatment work?

For TruSculpt 3D treatment, two different-sized handpieces are used, one for bigger areas like the flanks and abdomen and a slightly smaller one to treat smaller, more difficult-to-reach areas. The fast, deep delivery of uniform heat stimulates metabolic activity in tissue and promotes the elimination of fat cells. Treatment sessions only take about 15 minutes, with optimal results showing about 12 weeks after the procedure. The treatment also helps reduce the appearance of cellulite.

With IPL treatment, light pulses are created by bursts of electrical current in the IPL device, which releases energy pulses onto the surface of your skin. That heat energy targets the lower layers of your skin and melanin in your hair follicles without damaging the skin’s outer layers. The treatment isn’t invasive or uncomfortable and requires no downtime. IPL treatments can be completed on your lunch break.

With the VI Peel®, a chemical solution is applied to your skin that helps exfoliate and peel off unhealthy skin. The new, rejuvenated skin is often smoother and far less wrinkled than the peeled off skin. Patients are temporarily more sensitive to the sun.

HydraFacial™ is a 15-minute skin moisturizing procedure. It’s soothing, refreshing, non-irritating and immediately effective.

Are these treatments safe?

TruSculpt 3D and IPL treatment are both associated with some minor side effects that aren’t too troublesome. Minor redness, swelling, and tenderness can happen but shouldn’t last long.

Chemical peels require some at-home follow-up care. Miss Blair guides you through the healing process, which usually includes taking precaution against increased sensitivity to the sun and using medication or lotion to address redness, scaling, or swelling that may occur.
